About

I’m a potter working within the Catawba Valley pottery tradition in Rutherford College, North Carolina. I make high-fired functional pottery for use in the home and restaurant. My interest in pottery began while studying pyschology at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. During my junior year of college, I met Mark Hewitt of Pittsboro and attended ‘The Potter’s Eye’ exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of Art. That sparked my obsession with local materials and big wood kilns. After spending a decade working in addiction research at Duke University, I decided to move back to my hometown and devote my life to making pottery full time. From 2019 to 2024, I built out my workshop, gas kiln, wood kiln and excavated a career’s supply of clay. With the support of my partner Sandy and our 2 daughters, Alice and June, I intend to make pottery here in Rutherford College for many years to come.
